YES Forum - Youth and European Social Work
YES Forum News October 2016

Dear ###USER_first_name### ###USER_last_name###,

We are happy to share with you exciting news regarding the YES Forum's activities and projects.

While the Secretariat has taken part to many networking and project meetings during these past few weeks, our efforts to make young people’s voice heard culminated during our Policy Event in Brussels on 15-16 November.

During this unique event organised in the European Parliament thanks to the support of MEP Jeroen Lenaers, many issues were addressed, with a focus on how to improve Erasmus+ so that it is more accessible to young people as well as youth organisations. Once again, thanks a lot to all participants, and especially to the young people who took part to the debates.

If you want to advertise your own activities within the YES Forum network, do not hesitate to contact us.

Best wishes,

YES Forum Secreteriat

#AskNavracsics – Online youth consultation on volunteering

Tibor Navracsics, the European Commissioner for Youth, published an online consultation addressed at young Europeans on how to get more young people to volunteer. The consultation will be opened until 31st December.

This consultation is part of a long term consultative process aimed at identifying factors that dishearten young people to get involved in volunteering activities.

Young people can answer four questions on the European Youth Portal to participate in this effort.

Consultation - Employment & Social Innovation Programme (EaSI)

The European Commission recently opened a new public consultation for the mid-term evaluation of the European Union Programme for Employment and Social Innovation (EaSI). The consultation will run until 11/01/2017.

The mid-term evaluation will cover the activities undertaken under the three axes of the EaSI programme (PROGRESS, EURES, Microfinance and Social Entrepreneurship) during the period 2014 - 2016.

More information are available at this address.

Report on the Youth Guarantee progress

The European Commission recently adopted a Communication that highlights the main achievements of the Youth Guarantee and Youth Employment Initiative (YEI) since their launch in 2013.

The document also draws lessons on how to improve the EU and national efforts on deploying national Youth Guarantee schemes.

Save the date: GA and "Our Life Our Voice" Final conference, 3-4 May 2017

In parallel to the final meeting of the project `Our Life, Our Voice’, the 2017 YES Forum’s General Assembly will be organised in Brussels in the first week of May 2017.

On 3rd May, the General Assembly will offer space to promote our ideas and aims as a European network as well as an opportunity for interested organisations to meet with YES Forum members.

On 4th May, the `Our Life, Our Voice’ final conference will conclude the project by presenting its final results and recommendations on youth poverty to all stakeholders at EU level.

We are looking forward to seeing you there, so remember to save the date in your agenda!

2016 Policy Event in Brussels, November

On 15-16 November, the YES Forum held its Policy Event in Brussels under the topic "Working with young people - Between discourse and practice".

The 2016 Policy Event was a unique opportunity to meet with high-ranking EU officials, including MEPs Jeroen LENAERS (NL, EPP), Julie Ward (UK, S&D) and Brando Benifei (IT, S&D), Antoaneta Angelova-Krasteva and Georges Bingen from the European Commission (DG EAC, Youth and Sport) and Klaus Loeffler from the European Parliament (EYE Unit).

For the first time, young people took part to the event to voice out their concerns directly to EU officials. To make the most of their trip to Brussels, they also visited the European Quarter, the European Parliament, and met with MEP Kaja Kallas (EE, ADLE) for an informal talk.

To know more about the content of the discussions during the event, please check the report on our website.

`Our Life, Our Voice’ Partners meeting in Romania

On October 26-27th, the `Our Life, Our Voice’ project partners met in Cluj Napoca, Romania, to review their progress and prepare the final events of the project.

The partners first focused on the finalisation of Intellectual Outputs 1 and 2, namely the investigation into poverty carried out by young people and their policy recommendations to help politicians tackle youth poverty.

The participants also discussed the third IO,  a toolkit for youth workers on how to engage young disadvantaged people.

They finally started planning the dissemination part of the project, with a focus on the Final conference that will be organised in Brussels on 3-5 May 2017.

Do you want more details? Follow the blog on the project website to get more insights by the young people and stay updated on the proceedings.

Through an understanding of the experiences, values and attitudes of European, youth PROMISE will get to the heart of barriers and opportunities for social engagement.

YES Forum at the EFD-Zukunftskonferenz in Aachen

On 20-21st October, the YES Forum staff participated to the EFD-Zukunftskonferenz in Aachen, a large-scale event organised by the German Erasmus+ Youth National Agency in order to celebrate the EVS 20th Anniversary while reflecting on its future.

Together with the other participants, the German NA and representatives from the European Commission, the YES Forum discussed the main aspects to be improved in Erasmus+ Youth: over-bureaucratic processes, under-funding in many areas, long response time to project proposals …

After the EFD-Zukunftskonferenz, the participants also joined the EFD-Festakt, which celebrated the 20th years anniversary of the EVS. Martin Schulz, President of the European Parliament, praised the role played by the EVS in building a Europe of solidarity.
